Privacy Policy — Proxi

Proxi helps you spot fellow enthusiasts around you. It is designed to be the opposite of tracking: useful proximity without revealing your location, and without an account. Our server is hosted in the European Union (OVH).

Location — approximate by design

• Your position is immediately reduced, on your device, to a coarse area (a cell of about 1 km) before anything is sent. Your exact position never leaves your phone.
• The radar only shows an approximate direction and distance, deliberately fuzzed (sectors + buckets) to prevent triangulation. No precise point is ever shown on a map.
• Your presence is ephemeral: it expires automatically about 2 minutes after your last activity. We keep no movement history and no coordinates in our database.

No account, pseudonymous

Proxi works without email, password, or phone number. You are identified by an opaque, non-reversible technical identifier (derived via HMAC); your device's secret identifier is never exposed to others. You only choose a nickname, passions, and optionally a short line and a photo (the photo stays on your phone).

What goes to the server

To power the radar, the app periodically sends: your pseudonymous identifier, your active passions, your approximate area (never your exact coordinates) and your availability, with a short lifetime. These are used only to show people nearby.

Messages, waves & meeting point

• A “wave” or invitation notifies the other person. With your consent, you receive push notifications (via Apple APNs) when someone reaches out.
• If you decide to meet, you can share a public meeting spot that you choose yourself on a map — never your real-time position.

Anti-abuse security (no personal data)

To prevent fake accounts and bots, Proxi uses App Attest (Apple), which verifies this is a genuine instance of the app on a real device, and DeviceCheck, which prevents a banned account from coming back. These mechanisms collect no personal data.

Block & report

You can block (the other person disappears and can no longer contact you) or report a user. When you report, an excerpt of the latest messages is sent to moderation as evidence and kept for up to 180 days, then deleted automatically. This data may be provided to authorities upon a valid legal request.

Purchases

Any subscriptions are handled by Apple (App Store); we have no access to your payment information.

Your rights (GDPR)

• Deletion: delete the app → your presence expires and your local profile is erased. You can also request deletion of your identifier and reports on the service side.
